Otranto

Masseria Poesia Otranto

On the Westernmost point of the Italian boot, at 140 kms from Masseria Poesia, lies Otranto. City of the martyrs and a gem of the Salento region it was one of the bridges between East and West. With its many beaches nearby the city itself has a rich historical, artistic and cultural tradition. In Summer this small town (5.600 inhabitants) is invaded by tourists who are attracted by its beauty and its unique sea. Some say the name derives from Hydruntum, that refers to a small river that descends along the Idro Valley. Others think it comes from Odronto, the name of a height near the harbour. Boroughs with the picturesque names of Porto Badisco, Fontanelle, Serra Alimini, Frassanito and Conca Specchiulla are popular tourist destinations.
